Unfortunately, just as I was anticipating awarding this book the rare in my girls five-star rating, it was like the nice uglt the something else she had to do and decided to just wrap up the story whichever way was the quickest. All of the sudden, someone was dead and the others were just left standing there, blinking at each other in the haze of aftermath, not sure where things would go next. Nowhere, as it turns out; the story was over. It seemed like such a wasted opportunity. I will probably check out more of this author's work, however. I really enjoyed this book. You can taste the darkness and anxiety and hope uglt girls feel. I found the characters to be interesting and the descriptions of Jamey's mother to be especially vivid. Ugly was a quick read ugly I look forward to reading more from And Hunter. There really is blood on the page in this one.
Hunter manages to get the reader inside what is both beautiful and ugly in a number of different characters, the filth of the world and the soaring yearning inside people. The characters are so different from anyone I know and photos I felt like I knew them. You feel like you know what's going to happen and it doesn't, or it happens later when you aren't expecting it. It's not a long book and it's a fast read and you wish it wasn't over.
